Emergency Paediatric First Aid
A one-day infant and child first-aid course for anyone caring for young children — covering the emergencies that matter most with the very young, taught at your nursery, school or setting.
An in-depth look at the course
Emergency Paediatric First Aid is the one-day, Level 3 course for anyone responsible for the safety of babies and young children. The emergencies that affect the very young — choking, breathing difficulties, febrile seizures — often unfold quickly and call for techniques quite different from adult first aid. This course makes sure the adults around them know exactly what to do.
The day is hands-on, using infant and child manikins so delegates practise the skills directly. It is delivered at your nursery, school or setting and contributes towards the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) staffing requirements. For the full EYFS-compliant qualification, the two-day Paediatric First Aid course is the complete option.

Who should attend
This course is for nurseries, pre-schools, childminders, nannies and early years staff who need emergency paediatric first aid, and for parents and grandparents who want the skills. It contributes towards EYFS staffing requirements; settings needing the full Ofsted/EYFS-compliant qualification should choose the two-day Paediatric First Aid (Level 3).
Assessment & certification
Delegates are assessed by continuous practical observation across the day, demonstrating the key infant and child skills to the trainer. Successful learners receive a Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF), accredited by FAIB or Qualsafe and valid for three years. It covers the emergency element of the EYFS framework; the full two-day course covers the complete requirement.
